Windows registry is the backbone of your Windows Operating system. The Operating System gathers details about paths and locations of programs from the Registry for boot up purposes. The Windows Registry is also essential for proper functioning of the computer applications, hardware and Internet browser. It is a complex database that contains the following information about:

  • Hardware configuration settings
  • File classes, COM and OLE
  • User Profiles
  • System Policies

Changes made in settings, hardware and software will be reflected in the Windows Registry.

Your brand new PC is quick and a pleasure to operate. But as time passes you find that your PC becomes slow. This can really be very frustrating. You will encounter a lot of errors in your PC like:

  • .DLL errors
  • Exe errors
  • Broken paths, links and shortcuts
  • Unused Files
  • Corrupt Active X objects
  • Corrupt Com objects
  • Blue screens
  • Deadlocks
  • Computer Freezes and Crashes

These system problems arise from the corruption of the Windows Registry. As you add or remove programs and hardware to your computer, the Registry gets filled with invalid entries.

Editing the Registry regularly will help you clear unwanted entries and speed up your system. Manual Windows Registry Fix can be done with the help of the Windows Registry Editor.

Before you set out to repair Windows Registry make sure you learn the Registry design. There are five major keys -expandable folders- leading to sub keys and Registry values. You also need to know the location of Registry entries that pertain to each application and hardware of your system.

The keys and sub keys are displayed as folders on the left of the Windows Registry Editor screen whereas the value details are displayed on the right. Basic Windows Registry Tweaks such as adding, deleting and renaming keys and values and specific editing can be performed using the Windows Registry Editor.

There were two Windows 2000 Registry editing programs which were later integrated into one Windows XP Registry editing program. The Windows XP Registry and Windows 2000 Registry allow customization of the operating system through Windows Registry Tweaks.

Windows Registry Fix can be made automatic by using Windows Registry Cleaner software. The software is designed to scan, detect and repair Windows Registry errors. Apart from performing Windows Registry Tweaks the software can clear the hard disk of junk files to eliminate memory hogs and remove unwanted browser objects to make your Internet Explorer faster.

When you repair Windows Registry if by chance you mess it up, you will have to reinstall your Operating System, software and/or hardware. So whether you do Windows Registry Fix manually using Registry editor or automatically with a Windows Registry Cleaner program it is best that you take steps for Windows Registry Recovery. Backups help you execute Windows Registry Recovery in case anything goes wrong. Registry editor allows you to take backups of files you wish to edit by exporting the chosen key/sub key to another location. Most cleaner programs have built-in backup tools that automatically take backups before a Windows Registry error scan is done.

Your Windows Registry is the heart and soul of your PC’s Operating System. So make sure you maintain it properly to enjoy working on an efficient PC.
